The Summer Programs at San Diego’s California Ballet School are designed to compliment students’ training received during the regular school year. The 2017 Summer Programs are divided into four levels, from beginning to professional.

Beginning Summer Dance Camp

The Beginning Summer Dance Camp Program is for students ages 5-9 with two or fewer years of prior dance training. These one-week sessions include ballet classes and supplemental lessons in tap and jazz. Each week is themed and the students participate in creating dances and crafts based on that weeks’ theme. Each week concludes with an in-studio performance for family and friends.

Intermediate Summer Program

The Intermediate Summer Program is for students ages 9-14 with three or more years of prior ballet training and up to two years of pointe experience. The Intermediate Students will participate in a variety of classes, including ballet, variations, jazz and modern. Each week will include an in-studio performance to showcase the students’ progress.

Advanced Summer Intensive

Summer Programs

The Advanced Intensive offers a unique opportunity for experienced dancers ages 12-17 to study ballet in beautiful San Diego, California. Class size is limited to offer dancers individualized attention in a nurturing, but professional environment. Class sessions include ballet technique, jazz, modern, pointe, variations, choreography, and repertoire. Additionally, dancers will  perform in a final showcase at the conclusion of the program.

Professional Summer Intensive

Summer Programs

The Professional Intensive is geared towards professional and pre-professional dancers ages 18-22. Dancers get to sample the life of a professional dancer, with a full day schedule that includes a demanding rehearsal schedule. In addition to ballet technique classes, pointe, jazz and modern, dancers will participate in partnering, learn classical repertoire and perform in a final showcase. The culminating performance will serve as an audition for the California Ballet Company, where dancers may be offered contracts for the 2017-2018 season.

Current California Ballet School students in levels 5 and up do not need to audition for the Advanced Intensive (ages 12-17) and Professional Intensive (ages 18-22). There is no fee for current students to audition. If you are unable to attend the audition, you may submit a video.

Current students enrolled in Ballet 1-4 (ages 8-14) are not required to audition and may sign up for the Intermediate Program.

And current students enrolled in Ballet A, B, C or D (ages 6-10) are not required to audition and may sign up for the Beginner Program.
