San Diego’s California Ballet School offers a complete summer dance program, designed to compliment students’ training received during the regular school year. The 2016 Summer Programs are divided into four levels, from beginning to professional. Housing is available for the Advanced and Professional track summer intensive.
The Beginning Summer Program is for students ages 6-10 with two or fewer years of prior dance training. These one-week sessions include ballet classes and supplemental lessons in tap and jazz. Each week is themed and the students participate in creating dances and crafts based on that week’s theme. Classes run from 9:00 am- 1:00 pm daily (Mon-Fri), with a weekly showcase at 1:00 pm each Friday.
The Intermediate Summer Program is for students ages 8-14 with three or more years of prior ballet training, and up to two years of pointe. The intermediate students will participate in a variety of classes, including ballet, variations, jazz, and modern. Classes run from 9:00 am- 2:00 pm daily (Mon-Fri). Each week will include an in-studio performance to showcase the students’ progress.
The Advanced Track offers a unique opportunity for experienced dancers ages 12-18 to study ballet in beautiful San Diego, California. Class size is limited to offer dancers individualized attention in a nurturing but professional environment. Classes run from 9:00 am-3:00 pm daily (Mon-Fri), and include ballet technique, jazz, modern, pointe, variations, choreography, and repertoire. Additionally, all dancers are invited to perform in a final showcase, open to friends and family. ADMISSION BY AUDITION ONLY
The Professional Track is a three-week intensive geared towards professional and pre-professional dancers ages 16-22. Dancers get to sample the life of a professional dancer, with classes that run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily (Mon-Fri) and include a demanding rehearsal schedule. In addition to technique classes in ballet, pointe, jazz, and modern, dancers will participate in partnering, learn classical repertoire, set new works, and perform in a final showcase. The culminating performance will serve as an audition for the California Ballet Company, where dancers may be offered contracts for the 2016-2017 season. ADMISSION BY AUDITION ONLY
