The Professional Intensive is geared towards professional and pre-professional dancers ages 18-22. Dancers get to sample the life of a professional dancer, with a demanding full day rehearsal schedule. In addition to technique classes in ballet, pointe, jazz and modern, dancers will participate in partnering, learn classical repertoire, and perform in a final showcase. Additionally, dancers will participate in a final showcase at the conclusion of the program. The culminating performance will serve as an audition for the California Ballet Company, where dancers may be offered contracts for the 2017-2018 season.

Professional Intensive FAQ’s

Audition is required for acceptance into the Professional and Pre-professional Summer Intensive Program. Audition video link may be submitted to California Ballet School beginning January 1, 2017. Dancer may also attend an audition at the California Ballet School. Audition dates will be in late January as well as early May.

Room and Board will be available for out of area dancers with a Host Family for an additional cost of $300 per week.

Enrollment is on a first-come, first placed basis.A $50 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of registration. The tuition balance is due no later than May 31, 2017.

Calvin Kitten began his dance training at the California Ballet School and furthered his training with Vakhtang Chabukiani at the State Ballet School in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia and also at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York. Following a workshop performance in New York, Calvin was personally invited by then Artistic Director Gerald Arpino to join the Joffrey Ballet. He danced with them, both in New York and Chicago, from 1991 to 2010.

During his 19 years with the Joffrey, Calvin performed many principal and soloists roles while touring the United States, Canada and internationally throughout Europe and Asia. Mr. Kitten was privileged to have worked with James Kudelka, Edward Liang, Donal Byrd, Ann Reinking, Laura Dean, Peter Pucci, Sir Anthony Dowell, David Parsons, Twyla Tharp, and Yuriko to name a few. Calvin was especially proud to have worked with Mark Goldweber, former dancer and ballet master at the Joffrey, who mentored and coached him throughout his entire career.

Calvin received two Ruth Page Awards, Chicago’s premier dance recognition awards. He has been featured on the cover of Dance Magazine and was name one of the “25 Dancer to Watch” in 2001. Calvin is currently on staff at the Ballet West Academy in Salt Lake City and is currently the principal teacher for Ballet West II.
